Sound Transit Passenger Bus Shelter
for the Regional Transit System

The concept for this bus shelter design is to provide a "kit of parts" system that allows for multiple configurations, but is standardized with respect to components traditionally requiring a high amount of maintenance.

The intent is to allow for the new shelter design to be used throughout King, Pierce and Snohomish counties, the Sound Transit system area. Throughout the design process we have taken into consideration the configurations of existing units in these counties, held numerous brainstorming sessions, and hosted an open house for our transit partners, to share our progress on the development of the bus shelter and to solicit their feedback.

Two prototype shelters were built during the design process. The most recent, in front of Seattle's Union Station on Jackson Street at 4th Avenue, is widely used, rain or shine.
